Year 2 read the story "The Space Race" today in their parent and pupil phonics workshop, recapping the alternative pronunciations:

/e/ spelt 'ea' as in head

/oo/ spelt 'ou' as in group

/igh/ spelt 'y' as in sky

/i/ spelt 'y' as in crystal

/sh/ spelt 'ch' as in parachute

In this story, the aliens race around in their cars, so parents and pupils made a checkered flag together, using their weaving skills! Aren't they brilliant?
