Year 5 blog:
Year 5 took a journey back in time to the lead up to the Tudor era, deep diving into some of the key moments in English history. Our day began with a recap of the pre-Tudor period, where we explored the tension and turmoil between the houses of York and Lancaster.
The highlight of the day was our re-enactment of the infamous Battle of Bosworth. The children were split into groups to play key figures such as Richard III, Henry Tudor, and Lord Stanley. Each group passionately took on their roles, with Richard’s loyalists facing Henry’s determined army. Lord Stanley’s crucial switch in allegiance had everyone on the edge of their seats!
To symbolise the unity and peace that came after the battle, each child crafted their own red and white rose (the Tudor Rose), representing the houses of Lancaster and York. We joined them together, reflecting the merging of the two houses through Henry VII’s marriage to Elizabeth of York, which brought an end to the Wars of the Roses.
The day wrapped up with a fascinating investigation into the mystery of the Princes in the Tower. The children worked in groups to explore the different suspects, accusations, and scenarios behind this historical mystery, piecing together the clues to decide who might have been responsible for the disappearance of the young princes.
It was a day full of discovery, drama, and detective work, leaving us with a deeper understanding of this crucial turning point in English history!
