Year 5 Blog

Welcome to the Year 5 blog! Throughout this term, we have been learning about a range of exciting and thought-provoking topics.

In our writing lessons, we have been learning about plastic pollution affecting our oceans. We have written persuasive pieces to help educate people and change their mind-set about this important issue. We have researched the challenges we are facing in dealing with plastic pollution, and found potential solutions for individuals and companies.

In Maths, we have been working hard, and are currently learning about how to calculate the area and perimeter of different shapes. We have challenged ourselves and discovered how to identify missing lengths and calculate the area of compound shapes. We have all been working really hard on this, and have made great progress!

In History, we have been asking the question “Was Elizabeth I a successful English monarch?” We were really lucky to be invited on a fantastic trip to the MAST theatre to watch Horrible Histories: Terrible Tudors and learn more about this! We have been exploring the causes and effects of the Spanish Armada, and have formed arguments on why their attempt failed.

In Science, we have been exploring space and learning all about the solar system. We have been investigating the changing scientific theories throughout history, looking at the work of different scientists such as Ptolemy, Copernicus and Galileo, as well as researching different technologies that help scientists to learn more about the universe!

Year 5 should be very proud of the effort they have put in this term, and the progress they have made,
