Eco blog
Hello and welcome back to another Eco Blog! We have been extremely busy with our green fingers: taking more steps to help protect the environment.
Year 1 children are keeping the school sparkling clean by enthusiastically gathering litter, showcasing their commitment to a greener environment. They have been making sure all the fruit waste goes into the compost bin so that it can be reused in our allotments!
The children have been itching to get back out into the allotments and plant the seeds ready for the summer, so this week children across the school have planted sacks of potatoes! We have kept a close eye on our crocus and daffodils, and they have begun to bulb! How exciting! Please keep an eye out on our beautiful flowers as they start to bloom this spring term.
Year 2 have also been extremely busy keeping a close eye on the bug hotel! We wanted to make sure all the insects had a frost-free place to spend this winter. We collected some more natural materials to replace those blown away by the wind. We found stones, grass and wood to use. Then we talked about the importance of using natural materials. We refilled the toilet rolls to ensure there were nooks for the bugs to hide waited quietly to see if any bugs had taken up residence. We discussed how the bugs would be well hidden to try and keep warm in the cold months however we did spot some of our little friends.
This half term we have introduced another charity to the children, Th Crisp Packet Project https://youtu.be/2bfhwRwghVA
We have been enjoying our packets of crisps that you have been sending in and then rather than binning the waste packet, we have been collecting it in a bin for ONLY crisp packets! Strange, we know! However, crisp packets are an excellent tool to reuse to make sleeping bags for homeless people, people who have been impacted by war and people who can’t afford to heat their own homes. The Crisp Packet Project create essential items by ironing the crisp packets together. The eco team have been hard at work preparing the packets ready to be shipped off. Once you have enjoyed your crisps at home, please feel free to send them in as they are going to a great cause and will benefit many unfortunate people.
Also, let’s not forget, the importance of waste-free lunchboxes, as these little changes can make a massive difference!
Which Packets should I save?
