Year 2 blog:

In Writing, we have been reading 'The day the Crayons quit' and zooming in on different features to help us write a letter. We have used conjunctions such as ‘if’ and ‘when’ to extend our sentences and add more detail to our writing. As well as this, we have been practicing using exclamations and questions to persuade Duncan to start treating his Crayon’s better! We can’t wait to share our letters with you.

In Maths we have started the topic of adding and subtracting. We have been mastering these concepts using practical resources such as tens frames, number lines and multilink. The children have loved using them! They have had lots of opportunities to recall number bonds to 10 and 20. These will be important in the next steps when the problems have bigger numbers. As well as this, we have been playing lots of fun games to help them count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In Science,
we’ve been diving into an exciting unit on animals and habitats. We have focused on the polar regions and how polar bears have adapted to survive. We have been learning about the unique features of polar bears, such as their thick fur and a special layer of blubber that helps keep them warm in freezing temperatures. In addition to this, we’ve been exploring the ocean as a habitat for many other animals. The children were amazed by how diverse the ocean is. We’ve been discussing how each habitat is unique and how animals have special features that allow them to survive in these environments. For example we learnt that a rock fish is camouflaged so it can hide from its prey.
