Year 6 blog:
Earlier on in the term, our Year 6 reading ambassadors visited The Southampton Central Library. We learnt about all the different books and other services libraries offer and how important they are to have in our community. After further research we found that many schools in our local area do not have a library like we do. So we decided to write letters to ‘The Children’s Laureate’, our local MP and the prime minister himself, to express our concern and importance.
We were very lucky to get two letters back! We received a letter from the government thanking us for our research and passion around the importance of libraries and how he was going to look at sending some funding to the local area. We also received a postcard from Frank Cotroll Boyce (the children’s laureate) on how we inspired him to inspire other authors to make sure a library is seen as something compulsory in all schools.
These are some very exciting letters and we are hoping to receive many more.
